Cleaning after a flood in Lodz

After a flood there are two separate jobs and it is worth separating them at once, because different firms do them. The first is the clear-up: collecting the water, washing surfaces, cleaning soaked textiles. The second is drying out the structure — walls, screeds and the space under the floor — with drying equipment. We do the first and we say plainly when the second is needed.

Carpets and upholstery

Soaked textiles are the most urgent element of the whole situation. Flood water is rarely clean, and moisture trapped in pile or foam produces a smell within two days and mould within a week. Carpet cleaning costs 10 zł per square metre, a two-seat sofa 140 zł, a mattress from 70 zł, with a minimum order of 120 zł.

What we do not do

We do not dry out walls, screeds or the space under panels; that is work with drying equipment and moisture measurement, usually run over several days. We do not remove mould from walls: as long as the wall is damp it will come back whatever chemicals are used. We do not dismantle floors or fitted units and we do not prepare reports for insurers.

The order that makes sense

First the source of the leak, then the clear-up, then drying, and only at the end the finishing work. Painting a damp wall always ends the same way: the stain comes through the paint after a few weeks. If the flat is to be redecorated, it is worth waiting for the moisture reading.

Documentation

After the visit the cleaner sends photos of the rooms. For an insurance claim or a conversation with the neighbour upstairs that is concrete material, though it does not replace a loss adjuster's report.

Where we work

Across the whole of Lodz and the surrounding area. Floods happen more often in the old tenements of Śródmieście and Stare Polesie, where the plumbing is decades old; we travel there just as everywhere else, within the price of the service.

A flood from the flat above

The most common scenario in blocks: water runs down the wall and across the ceiling, and the flat below gets soiling in places nobody looks — on the top edges of wardrobes, on light fittings and in the ceiling corners. We do those as part of the visit, but it is worth mentioning them when booking so the team brings a ladder.
