Tenement window cleaning in Lodz

Windows in the tenements of Lodz are a subject of their own and the most common reason a form estimate differs from the final bill. The reason is simple: an old box window has two sashes one behind the other, which means four panes to wash instead of two, and we count by sash at 40 zł.

Why by sash and not by opening

Because the work is exactly as large as the number of panes. A box window has to be opened in both layers, four glass surfaces washed, the space between the sashes cleaned out, which is where most of the dirt collects, and everything dried. Charging for such a window as if it were an ordinary single frame would mean somebody subsidises the job, either another customer through a different quote or the cleaner with their own time.

What a flat costs

• a studio with two box windows — 160 zł
• two rooms, three windows and a balcony door — 320 zł
• a tenement flat with five windows — 400 zł

Windows ordered on their own are subject to the minimum order of 135 zł.

What the service covers

The glass on both sides of every sash, the space between the sashes, the frames and seals, the inner and outer sill within arm's reach, the handles and fittings. We collect the water so that none of it is left on the floor or on the radiator under the window.

Old joinery needs care

In renovated tenements the timber is often freshly painted, and paint under a layer of dirt scratches easily. We work more slowly there and without scrapers. We do not open windows with a cracked pane or loose putty, and we say so before starting, because closing such a sash is often harder than opening it.

What we do not do

We do not work at height from outside the building: no ladders against the façade and no rope access. Windows are cleaned only from inside the flat. We do not take down grilles, external shutters or curtains. We do not adjust fittings and we do not replace putty.

When to book

Twice a year: in spring after the heating season and in autumn before the next one. In Śródmieście and along busy streets such as Piotrkowska, Zgierska and Kilińskiego a sensible interval shortens to three months, because the panes collect soot from low-stack emissions.

Across the whole of Lodz, particularly in Śródmieście, Stare Polesie and Bałuty Centrum, where most of the tenements are. Travel is included in the price.

The space between the sashes

This is the part almost nobody cleans themselves, because it requires opening both layers at once. Dust, insects and the moisture that condenses there in winter all collect in it, and that is what makes a window look dirty even when both visible panes are clean. We always do it, within the price per sash.
