Student flat cleaning in Lodz

Lodz is one of the largest university cities in Poland. The University of Lodz, the Lodz University of Technology and the Film School draw tens of thousands of people, and most of them live in rented flats and rooms. Cleaning such a place has its own logic: several tenants, shared rooms and a bill that has to be divided somehow.

Splitting the bill between flatmates

The simplest arrangement is counting by room: a room 45 zł, a bathroom 45 zł, a hallway 35 zł, with a minimum order of 135 zł. Everyone pays for their own room and you divide the shared spaces — kitchen, bathroom and hall — between you. The alternative is the price for the whole flat: 229.90 zł for two rooms, 274.90 zł for three, divided by however many people live there.

When students order most often

• before taking a flat over from the owner at the start of the academic year
• before moving out in June, when the deposit is at stake
• after exams, when nobody has cleaned for three weeks
• before parents arrive
• after a party in the flat

The deposit

It is the most common source of dispute at move-out and at the same time the easiest thing to prepare for. The owner checks the bathroom, the kitchen with the appliances inside, the windows and the walls around the switches. Oven and fridge at 40 zł each, windows at 40 zł each: a full set for a two-room flat comes to around 450 zł, usually well below the value of the deposit.

What we do not do

We do not tidy personal belongings and we do not decide what to throw away; we gather them in one place and leave them. We do not wash dishes beyond the 25 zł item. We do not do laundry. We do not remove furniture or equipment.

Payment

After the service, in cash or by card. If several of you are paying, the simplest way is for one person to settle the whole amount and square it with the others; we do not split the bill into parts.

A flat in a tenement

A good number of student flats in Lodz are in old tenements in Stare Polesie and Śródmieście: high ceilings, box windows and a larger wall area than a block flat of the same size. A visit takes longer there, and window cleaning is counted by sash, so a box window with two sashes is two items at 40 zł.

Regularly or one-off

In a flat shared by several people a regular schedule works better than a rescue operation once a semester: two visits a month carry a 10 % discount, and the cost divided between three tenants comes to around forty zloty per person per appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Will you clean just one room?

Yes, subject to the 135 zł minimum order. A room alone costs 45 zł, so it is usually combined with the bathroom or kitchen.

Does somebody have to be in the flat?

No, just somebody to open the door. Key collection for 30 zł is also possible.

Will we get confirmation for the owner?

After the visit we send photos of the rooms, which is the simplest proof of the condition of the flat.
